Riverside announce new site for 30 homes at Etterby
19th May 2011
Social landlord Riverside, who manage 6,000 homes in Carlisle, and Story Group have today confirmed that they are to build 30 new houses just off Etterby Road in Carlisle.
The much-needed homes include two bedroom bungalows as well as two, three and four bedroom houses.
20 will be offered for rent and the remaining ten will be offered for sale under a shared ownership scheme. This project has been possible through funding from the Homes and Communities Agency.
It is expected that Story Group, who are undertaking the design and build project, will start on site week commencing the 23rd May with a build period of approximately 18 months.
Malcolm Irving, Development and Leasehold Manager for Riverside said: "This is an important project as it will provide new homes in an area where we know demand for quality housing is high. As all of the properties are classed as affordable we'll be able to ensure the development provides much-needed affordable and sustainable homes for the local community.
“At Riverside we pride ourselves on energy efficiency and achieving high eco-standards to new builds making our communities cleaner, greener and safer. All of the homes have been designed to achieve Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes; which requires a minimum 25% reduction of carbon emissions over the Building Regulations 2006. The design of the scheme has taken into account running costs, on-going maintenance, location and aesthetics.”
The design also incorporates a Rainwater Harvesting system which will collect rainfall from a number of the properties to be stored in underground tanks. The stored rainwater will then be used throughout the dwellings for non-potable uses.
Having 10 units for Shared Ownership the scheme has also been designed to promote home ownership in an area where the average income does not allow for this through an outright mortgage.
Fred Story, Chief Executive of Story Group, said: "This site is in a great location and we have produced a design and layout to complement this. We look forward to working with Riverside to bring this site forward, resulting in a development that everyone can be proud of."
