HSQE

Story Group is a major employer in Cumbria and fully embraces the fundamental aspects of sustainability, focusing on social/environmental concerns and seeking to influence change wherever possible.

Health & Safety

The Story Group is committed to providing a working environment that is safe and healthy for all employees and those affected by our activities. The Group's operations are carried out to ensure (so far as is reasonably practicable) that the Health & Safety of any person will not be adversely affected by our activities. The Board is committed to the provision of strong and active leadership in such matters and has established a HSQE Department that monitors our procedures and operations to ensure the highest standards are achieved. We strongly believe that Health and Safety is an integral part of our activities. By following this philosophy we have developed robust systems that are often commented upon by our clients, and we are proud to have had our hard work recognised through the winning of several awards for our safe practices.

The requirements of our Health & Safety Policy are communicated to all employees and the involvement of all individuals within the Group in the management of Health and Safety is promoted through effective consultation and communication. The Group is actively involved in several industry led initiatives and believes that the emphasis placed on Health & Safety benefits everyone involved in our operations.

Environment

With engineering, construction, rail and development interests, Story Group know that virtually everything we do has some impact on the natural or built environment. As such, we are proud of our efforts to control or reduce environmental disruption and make a positive contribution to the environment and quality of life.

Quality

Story Group recognise that our reputation has been built upon the quality of our work. Having consistently high standards of service and workmanship is at the forefront of our day-to-day work. To continue our success, we are committed to achieving quality throughout our organisation. We are fully accredited to ISO9001 and ISO14001 and we are currently working towards ISO18001.

Green thinking

We are proud of our achievements to reduce the carbon footprint of our businesses and in minimising our effect on the environment. Robust site waste management plans, reuse of site materials and our recycling ballast process all help to fulfil our commitment to sustainability. Additionally, the company has fitted trackers to company vans in order to reduce both pollution and fuel costs. Our plant machinery is set-up to run as silently as possible, using bio-degradable oil and spent oil is reused.
